Blog Post Five

I worked on combining these two images and adding text in the style of internet memes to further develop my usage of Photoshop tools such as the healing brush function, the patch tool, the selection tool, and many others. I found this image of Hillary Clinton to be very versatile so I figured it would make a good image for my selection piece. Then I was able to think of a possible background for the image based on the position she is taking and came upon the tightrope image. The text utilizes the drop shadow function and works to reflect the typical meme character style.

In order to create my color swatch palette I derived each color from an individual shell from the image pictured above. I worked to match the primary hue with the darkest shade on each shell chosen. From there I was able to adjust the tint of each hue to match another shade on the shells pictured. The final column of shades are intended to be as light as possible without compromising the integrity of the original hue. In deciding to utilize the shells with the wine, caramel, and eggplant tones I was hoping to create an elegant appearance in my color swatch and in the following nameplates.

This nameplate was the first that I created and I felt as if it was the most sensible, the lightest shade as the background with the two darkest hues for the name and headline. The name appears well on the background in the deep wine color, however I feel as if the deep eggplant hue looks a bit muddy against the pink background.

In order to alleviate some of that muddy quality I used the lightest purple shade as the background. I felt as if this made a significant difference in the nameplate as the levels of cyan seem to make the color pop a bit more behind the text. To put more focus on the title I opted for a lighter shade in the headline.

Similarly, I also chose a lighter shade for the headline in my final nameplate. This nameplate is my favorite as it does broach that elegant quality that I was hoping for in my design. Choosing to utilize a different shade of the same hue in the headline proved to be the most rewarding decision as I feel that it creates ample attention for the name above while maintaining cohesion with it's surrounding colors. The use of deep purple aids in the contrast of the text to the background and the headline as well as the color itself does not hold many similarities in levels of cyan, magenta, or yellow to the other, golden, tones.

Deciding which typefaces to use proved to be one of my greater decisions. I wasn't satisfied with many of the fonts on InDesign so I was able to download a couple from Adobe's TypeKit to add to my selection. While I wanted the text to look professional I also wanted it to have some sense of whimsy and elegance to mirror my assumed event design style. This is most noticeable in the headline as I preferred to display my name as a more professional signature than in a more personable font like the one below.

Blog Post Number Three

In working with editing our images, it is very important that we sophisticatedly resize our images so that the picture itself is not distorted. Through both enlarging and shrinking an image may become very pixelated as the components of the image stretch or shrink individually. To bypass this flaw I used the Adobe Photoshop image sizing feature.
The image that we were originally given was 1.8 inches wide and we were tasked with bringing that width to both 5 inches and 1 inch as well. The picture below is the original image we were given.

Then, in order to resize the image, I uploaded it to Adobe Photoshop. From there I clicked on the image icon at the top of my screen, in my laptop's toolbox, and was able to open image resizing options. This prompted a screen to come up which allowed for me to change the height, width, and resolution of the image amongst other things. After changing the width to 5 inches the image became very pixelated and I was then tasked with reworking the image. From there I was able to use the drop down menu under the image resampling link and select a function to aid in reducing the noise of the stretched out image. After doing so I ended up with the image below.

In the image above I saw the noise reduction function work very well to remove some of the  flaws that were there, however the function did not work as well on the smaller image. In resizing the original photo to have a width of 1 inch the image became distorted as we had assumed, however the focus was still a bit clearer than that of the first image after resizing alone. As the image was more clear when it was shrunken I was able to use the noise reduction function just a bit to help blend some evident pixelation out of the image. The results are as shown below.

Based on my experience only using simple resizing tools I do feel as if the usage of photoshop tools add to the complexity and professionalism of an image. The clarity that gives the image those qualities is crucial to find in resizing images to present an accurate depiction of the original image.

Blog Post Number One

12 January 2017

My name is Morgan Joseph and I am an Event Management major and French minor. I come from Cape Cod, Massachusetts where I live with my mother, father, sister, and our dog. My sister is only a year and twenty days older than me and we have been close our entire lives. Our relationship to our parents is the same and we spend most of our time at home together. Aside from my immediate family my mother's side of the family has always been very close. We spent most of our childhood at our grandmother's house and we still visit at least twice a week to see her where she lives with one of my mother's sisters. Below my mother, her two sisters, my grandmother, and I are pictured.

When I am not spending time with my family I am typically at school these days, or spending time with friends and my sister. My sister and I will typically spend our time doing yoga, rock climbing, hiking, and going to the beach with our friends. As we live on Cape Cod we have access to beautiful beaches and hiking trails that we love to take advantage of during the summer. Our area also offers various things to do like heading to Provincetown for various festivals or attending a show at the drive in at the cinema shown below.

Aside from traveling in my own state, I have also had the opportunity to travel to various countries such as Italy, Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, and Panama. Whether I was traveling to take a tour of historical museums and sites or spending weeks on the beach learning to surf in Panama I was able to derive a sense of personal responsibility through engaging in the experiences held in the places depicted in the images below.
